About the Artist

Takashi Murakami (b. February 1, 1962) is a contemporary pop artist based in Tokyo, Japan working in both fine art and commercial art. Murakami is the founder of the Superflat art movement, where traditional Japanese art is combined with Japanese pop culture, and founder of Kaikai Kiki Co., Ltd., an artist management agency, studio, and gallery. Murakami is known for his colorful, smiling flowers and characters like Kaikai, Kiki, and DOB. He continues to reach a global audience through his popular collaborations with fashion labels like Louis Vuitton and music artists like Billie Eilish and Kanye West.
